He
completed his internship at the University
of Minnesota in Minneapolis and his orthopaedic surgery residency
at the SUNY, Upstate
Medical Center
in 1982. After his residency, he completed a Fellowship at the Mayo
Clinic in Rochester,
MN in 1983.
Dr.
Heck was recruited to Indiana and Purdue Universities where he rose
through the academic ranks – becoming a tenured professor in the school
of medicine. While at Indiana University, he was an
investigator with the federally funded Patient Outcome Research Team
studying the management of patients with knee arthritis being treated
with joint replacement. He was
the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Roudeboush, VAMC. His clinical staff appointments
included Indiana University Medical
Center, the Riley Hospital
for Children, Methodist Medical Center
and Beltway
Surgical Center.
Dr.
Heck joined the staff of Methodist
Medical Center
and became active in numerous medical societies and organizations. He
is a member of the Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Orthopaedic
Association, American
Academy of
Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, Knee Society,
American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and other professional
groups.
Dr. Heck has been in the active practice of Orthopaedics since 1982.
His areas of sub-specialization include knee and hip joint
surgery. He has authored
numerous publications in the professional literature and has served as
an examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
He and his wife Kim, his wife of over 20 years, have 3 sons. Two sons are in the United States
Marine Corps.
